Natural rock climbing permit course (June 2021)

This two day course organised by the Gwent Scouts Land Activities active support unit is for those who already hold, or are ready to be assessed for, at least an artificial climbing/abseiling permit and are looking to transfer their skills to the outdoor environment.  To be eligible to attend, you must already be able to correctly fit a harness and helmet, tie in with an appropriate knot, belay a climber on a top rope, and have some general experience of working with young people in an outdoor environment.

We will look at rigging top ropes using natural and climber-placed protection, group management, abseiling with novice groups, and problem solving for both climbing and abseiling.

Saturday will be at Box Bay (within Rest Bay), Porthcawl, and Sunday will be held at Woodcroft Quarry near Chepstow.

Cost is £20 for guests; a subsidy will be applied for active members of the Gwent Land Activities SASU after booking.
